Bob’s Residential Fake Grass Lawn Story

August 1st, 2010

Meet Bob. Bob lives in the sweltering heat of Phoenix, Arizona in a large, Spanish-style home in an established neighborhood. Bob has a wife, three kids and two Labrador Retrievers who love to dig. Bob used to be the type of homeowner who would cringe at the thought of a residential fake grass lawn. But Bob had a change of heart earlier this year.

Bob is a lawyer and despite his 70 hour workweeks, he spends much of his free time on his lawn. It’s important to Bob to have a well-kept yard with lovely grass. He has to keep up with the Joneses, Smiths AND the Mitchells. Sadly, despite all his efforts, Bob’s lawn doesn’t look so hot. It’s brown and patchy and has a variety of holes where rawhide bones are probably buried. It’s not a pretty sight. No matter how hard Bob works on his yard, or how much money he spends, it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Despite this fact, Bob always laughs at people with residential fake grass lawns and keeps up a rigorous lawn maintenance schedule for many, many years.

Bob’s weekends are consumed with the rigors of edging, mowing, fertilizing, weeding and watering his large front yard and back lawn. He also has to contend with pet urine stains and piles of dirt excavated by his beloved dogs. Bob spends hours and hours on his lawn each weekend in temperatures well over 100 degrees, while his family frolicks in the pool with chips and cool umbrella drinks.

By the time Bob is finished with the yard, he is annoyed and exhausted.

One hot summer day, Bob decided he’d had enough and started researching residential fake grass lawn. He was thrilled to think that, after all these years, he could have a perfectly manicured, maintenance-free lawn. When Bob went to check out the grass with his own eyes, he was even more excited because it looked and felt real. Bob didn’t have to mull it over for long. He quickly had artificial grass installed in both his front and back yards.

Now, Bob spends his weekends floating in the pool with his wife, kids and dogs. He’s relaxed. He’s serene. His grass is green, lush and perfect. It’s free of holes and stains. It’s weed-free. Bob is a happy man.

Choosing Between Residential Artificial Turf and a Real Lawn

August 1st, 2010

There are a lot of steps in planting a real lawn. It can be a time-intensive process and the results are not guaranteed; you could do everything perfectly and still have a lawn that looks less than lovely. But you do have other options – you could opt to install residential artificial turf which requires no effort on your part other than writing a check. Here’s a look at the steps required for each grass option,…you make the call.

Installing a New Natural Lawn
1. Prepare the soil including tilling and turning
2. Mix in nutrients, supplements and compost
3. Level the site with a roller
4. Install a watering / drip system
5. Research and buy the right seed for your climate and growing conditions
6. Spread the seed carefully and evenly
7. Top-dress with a manure and/or straw
8. Roll the surface to ensure strong contact of seed and soil
9. Begin watering regularly
10. Watch birds eat the seeds, despite your top-dressing
11. Watch dogs and cats dig up your dirt thanks to the aroma of manure
12. Begin mowing as soon as the grass is 3”
13. Mow, edge, water, weed and fertilize every weekend for the rest of your life

Installing Residential Artificial Turf
1. Hire a high-quality, reputable artificial lawn company
2. Host a barbecue on your new lawn 24 hours later
3. Repeat step 2 every weekend for the rest of your life

The Trend Toward Residential Artificial Grass

July 22nd, 2010

In the early days of synthetic grass, residential customers often turned their noses at the sight of a fake lawn. And who could blame them? Back then, artificial grass products looked were very shiny which gave away the face that they were not real. It used to be very easy to pick out homes that had residential artificial grass. But these days, the quality of synthetic grass products has improved dramatically; making it tough to figure out which lawns are real and which lawns are not.

It’s not easy to have a beautiful real lawn. More and more people are turning to residential artificial grass because of the difficulty of growing grass in certain areas. Yards that get a lot of shade do not lend themselves to a nice green lawn. If you live in an area with harsh summers, like Arizona or Nevada, it can be equally difficult to get a lawn to thrive. Relentless summer sun can very easily burn even the healthiest of lawns. Artificial grass is perfect in areas with these kinds of weather conditions.

Now, more than ever, people are searching for ways to save time, and installing residential artificial grass is a fantastic way to save yourself a bunch of time. Real lawns require a good bit of maintenance including weekly mowing and edging, constant weed pulling, fertilizing to keep it green, aerating it to ensure it’s getting plenty of oxygen and, of course, treating with chemicals for a wide variety of pests. Synthetic grass requires none of this maintenance and upkeep so the time savings is substantial. It’s as low-maintenance as a lawn can be and is still going to look gorgeous all year long.

Want a Beautiful Lawn all Year Long? Get Synthetic Grass.

July 15th, 2010

Most people who have grass at their home or business would like it to look perfect and lush all year long. A perfectly manicured lawn is a nice complement to a home or business. No one wants a lawn that has bare spots, yellow spots, brown patches, bugs or weeds, but all of these are constant challenges with a natural lawn. That’s why a synthetic lawn is the best solution for grass that looks incredible every day of the year.

Why would a person spend hours of time every week mowing, weeding, edging and fertilizing to end up with a lawn that looks average or worse? What a waste of valuable time and energy. A synthetic lawn looks perfect with no maintenance or upkeep. Pet waste will not stain it and pets cannot dig holes in it. A synthetic lawn never has bare spots, never turns brown or gets yellow spots from pet urine. Unlike real lawns, synthetic never develops diseases like pearl scale or blight, never wilts and never dies. It doesn’t need a drop of water and doesn’t provide a haven for roaches and other pests like gophers and moles. A synthetic lawn never loses its vibrant green color.

With all these amazing benefits, why would anyone spend another minute doing yard work?

Synthetic Grass: The Easiest Path to a Perfect Lawn

July 15th, 2010

Unlike a real lawn, a synthetic lawn is pristine from day one with minimal effort on your part. A real lawn, on the other hand, requires a lot of time, effort and money to look beautiful. If you’re looking for the easiest path to a perfect lawn, synthetic seems like the clear choice, but let’s take a closer look.

One of the biggest challenges with a real lawn are weeds. They’re stubborn, prolific and seem to come back no matter what you do. Not only are weeds unsightly, but they compete with your grass for water and nutrients which further detracts from the look of your lawn. If you want a weed-free lawn, it will take a fair amount of time, money and patience to get there and it will be a constant struggle. You can pick weeds by hand (a frustrating and inefficient process) or, you can use a chemical spray if you don’t mind spreading poisonous substances around your home. Or, you can simply install a naturally weed-free synthetic lawn and never deal with weeds again.

Keeping a real lawn green and beautiful is not as easy as it may look, especially in the desert Southwest where summers are long and harsh. If you want your real lawn to look good you need to put down fertilizers like 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 15-15-15 several times a year. You’ll also need a high-quality lawn mower with extremely sharp blades to keep your lawn crisp, fresh and evenly cut. That means purchasing, housing and maintaining a large and expensive piece of machinery. Artificial grass stays lush, green and perfect without any fertilizing or mowing so, just like with weed-control, you save time and money.

If you really want a perfect lawn, one that stays lush, green and healthy all year round, the easiest path to perfection is a synthetic lawn.

Artificial Lawns are Packed with Benefits

July 15th, 2010

It’s true that artificial lawns save water and money, but they have many other benefits including the face that they arepet-friendly and beautiful year-round with very little maintenance.

Artificial Lawns – Perfect for Pets
Many people think that real lawns are much better for pets than artificial lawns. That is not at all true. Dogs like the soft feel of artificial grass and learn very quickly that it’s okay to go relieve themselves on it. And with today’s high quality grasses, drainage is never a problem. Unlike real grass, you won’t get yellow urine spots on your synthetic lawn because they are stain-resistant and will not burn. Another great pet perk is that you don’t have to clean wet, muddy paw prints off your floor anymore. And artificial grass is practically dig-proof so destructive puppies and dogs will not be able to ruin the look of your yard.

Artificial Lawns are Beautiful ALL Year
Real lawns require hours and hours of care to look their best including a tremendous amount of maintenance and upkeep. And even with the most consummate care and maintenance, a real lawn can still end up with yellow spots, brown patches, bare spots, weeds and more. Plus, if you don’t mow it weekly, a real lawn can look wild and unkempt which is a poor reflection on your home in general.

An synthetic lawn is a great alternative because it looks great 365 days a year with virtually no maintenance. Instead of spending hours and hours mowing, edging, fertilizing and treating for pests, you’ll spend about 15 minutes a month sweeping off your lawn. And all the hours you used to spend working on your lawn you can now spend doing something you really want to do.

Go Green with Artificial Grass

July 13th, 2010

These days, artificial grass not only looks realistic and natural, but is also extremely green – visually and environmentally. Many people are interested in doing their part to help the environment. If you’re one of them, a synthetic lawn is a fantastic choice.

Synthetic Grass Reduces Pollution
Roughly 54 million people mow their lawns every week; using 800 million gallons of gas each year. A 2001 study conducted by Sweden Stockholm University revealed that one hour’s worth of mowing resulted in the same amount of smog-forming emissions as driving a car 93 miles. And we know that more than 5 percent of all urban air pollution comes from gas-powered lawn mowers. Synthetic grass is an excellent and green alternative because it requires no mowing, edging or maintenance other than an occasional sweep to remove surface dust.

Synthetic Lawns Save Water
The biggest environmental impact of synthetic grass is the water it saves, especially in the desert Southwest where drought conditions can be severe. With the average American lawn guzzling down 21,600 gallons of water per year, it’s easy to see how artificial grass, which requires zero water, makes a huge impact in this area.

If you want to do more to positively impact the planet, artificial grass can help. Whether you’re considering artificial grass for your home or business, you’ll be doing your part to go green…and the planet will thank you for it.

Synthetic Grass Conserves Water

July 13th, 2010

One of the biggest upsides to installing synthetic grass is the water it saves. In desert areas like Arizona, where extreme heat and drought are common, saving water is on everyone’s minds. Experts tell us that reservoir levels are steadily dropping in Phoenix and Las Vegas. In fact, much of Arizona is currently experiencing some level of drought.

Replacing a real lawn with an artificial lawn has an enormous impact on water usage; reducing residential water use by up to seventy percent. In Arizona, synthetic lawns help us conserve our already dangerously low water reserves. An artificial lawn requires absolutely no water, nor does it need maintenance or chemicals of any kind. Synthetic grass saves so much water it significantly reduces most customer’s water bills.

Let’s face it, we Americans use a lot of water. And 50 – 70% of all household water is used outdoors -most of it for landscaping and lawns. So every day, 7.8 billion gallons of water go toward outdoor uses. That’s a lot of water! According to the United Nation’s World Water Development Report, over the next 20 years the quantity of water available to everyone will decrease by thirty percent. And experts predict even more trouble ahead thanks to the world’s growing population, increased contamination through pollution, and global warming.

It’s up to us to do our part to conserve water and one of the best ways to do that is to install a synthetic lawn.

Top Three Reasons to Install Artificial Grass

July 13th, 2010

There are many advantages to choosing synthetic grass over real grass. Here’s a look at the top three reasons.

Artificial Grass Costs Less over Time
An artificial lawn costs a little more up front, but will save you a lot of money over time. It costs about $200 worth of water per year to keep a 500 square foot lawn alive. In addition to this annual savings you also save on monthly maintenance which can run another $500-600 a year. A synthetic lawn requires no water, maintenance or chemicals. So it saves you hundreds of dollars every year and potentially hours and hours of your precious time.

Synthetic Lawns Look Like the Real Thing
In the past, artificial grass often looked unnatural and felt like plastic. But thanks to manufacturing advances, today’s synthetic grasses look and feel like the real thing. But beware, many companies cut corners by using inferior grass products that look fake. It’s important to choose an installation company that uses only the highest quality products.

Synthetic Lawns Beat Heat and Drought
It’s hard to keep real lawns lush and green, especially in the heat and drought of summer. An artificial lawn stays perfectly green and beautiful all year long. In high-heat areas such Arizona, artificial grass is a great way to keep your yard and home looking beautiful year-round. And today’s synthetic grasses will not melt or otherwise be damaged – even in extreme desert temperatures.
